Crystal Chandelier Lighting. Crystal chandeliers became popular when a 17th century glassmaker discovered how to make easily cut glass crystal. Until that time only rock crystal or fragile crystillo could be used for chandeliers. With the cheaper glass crystal, the popularity of crystal chandeliers exploded. They could fill a room with all the glittering colors of the rainbow, and effect that still makes them a very popular option today.
Keep Size in Mind. One of the most important things to remember as you consider chandelier light fixtures is to keep size in mind. There are various sizes to choose from so as you make your choice, keep in mind the size of your room furniture, the room size, and of course the size of this chandelier as well. While you want to think big, making this light fixture the center focal point, you want to avoid making your room look cluttered with one that is too large. On the other hand, something that is too small will look out of place.
There was a time when chandelier light fixtures were thought of as cultured and high class accessories for well-to-do homes. Luxurious ones were, and still are, part of opera houses, exquisite restaurants, hotels, and other establishments. Nowadays, though, you can find a chandelier for almost any room of your home to fit any motif or decorating design. Some of these light fixtures are still adorned with the more traditional hanging crystals, but many others are more simple in style, making use of other materials for lighting and decoration.
Stay away from bright colors and gleaming brasses that do not do justice to a rustic interior. Natural and outdoorsy is the theme that you want to portray with chandelier light fixtures that accent your rustic decor. Greens, browns and grays are examples of simplicity that will bring a rustic room together.
Contemporary Chandelier Lighting. Many contemporary chandeliers don`t have the branched arms we think of in a classic lighting chandelier. Instead they have a central support holding up a central lighted area. This is typical of an art deco or craftsman style chandelier. Modern chandelier lighting with a central support are typically called pendant chandeliers. They can come in all sizes and shapes, from mini chandeliers to streamlined steel.
